Farmhouse Brown Sugar Buttermilk Cake

Oh Lordy, this cake is so good! A yummy brown sugar cake with pecan glaze. Easy to make.



  • 1/2 cup (113 grams) butter

  • 2 cups (425 grams) light brown sugar

  • 2 large eggs

  • 2 cups (454 grams) buttermilk

  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

  • 2 tsp (12g) baking soda

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 3 cups (361 grams) All-purpose flour


  • 1/2 cups (113 grams) butter, melted

  • 1 1/4 cups (266 grams) light brown sugar

  • 1/2 cup (114 grams) milk

  • 1/8 tsp salt

  • 1 cup to 1 1/2 cups (113 grams to 170 grams) diced pecans


To make cake

  1. Preheat oven to 350 F. Lightly grease, with butter, a 9″ x 13″ inch cake pan.

  2. In stand mixer or with hand mixer, beat the butter and brown sugar together until smooth. Add eggs, beat until smooth. Stir in buttermilk and vanilla extract.

  3. Add baking soda, salt, and flour to wet ingredients and beat until combined.

  4. Pour batter into prepared cake pan. Bake for 35 minutes. Now prepare topping.

To make topping

  1. In medium bowl, stir melted butter and sugar together. Add milk, pecans and salt. The glaze will be thick and pourable.

  2. After the 35 minutes of baking time, take cake out of oven and pour topping over cake. Return cake back to the oven for another 10 minutes.

  3. After 10 minutes, remove cake from oven, it will look runny. Glaze will set over the next couple hours.

Serve with ice cream and oh my my!
